The Gordon State versus Georgia Highland match-up was as good as advertised on Wednesday night. It drew coaches from all over the country to Barnesville, GA to see these two teams square off. GA Highlands came into the game as one of the hottest teams in the country and undefeated in the league. Gordon State came into the game with a lot of momentum and they have some under the radar prospects that wanted to stop the streak and they rose to the occasion by knocking off GHC 67-65 in a wild finish . This was one of the better Junior college games I have seen in a while , I would like to see these two teams battle again to break the series tie of 1-1 for this year. GHC won the game last time these two met at their home 87-71.
Haslem Steals Show
Most eyes were on 6’7 Raynere Thornton of Gordon and 6’8 Kyvon Davenport of Georgia Highlands but Sophomore Center 6’10 Jailan Haslem came and stole the show. Haslem had his way with Highlands , the 6’10” Center from Warner Robins,GA finished at times like a man child. On the last possession to win the game the 255 pounds Center sprinted down the floor to get the game winning basket. Haslem is improving each and every game and his stock is rising . Haslem finished the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Thornton controls Game
A lot of eyes were on 6’7 Raynere Thornton of Gordon State, if you were looking for him to get buckets , you may have been disappointed, but when you watched his complete skill set you walked away with amazement at the Point Forwards ability to control a game. Thornton did everything from bringing the ball up the floor, handling the GHC press which is one of the best in the nation in its ability to wear a team down, to going and getting rebounds from the guard position. Thornton showed that he can impact the game without scoring 1 field goal, he only took 4 shot attempts. Thornton made up for not scoring by having 12 assist to go along with his 8 rebounds.
#JucoReportTV Highlights of Thornton
Kyvon Davenport battled all night long despite limping around on a bang up knee , he did a good job trying to defend the much bigger Haslem of Gordon State. Davenport injured his knee 5 minutes into this game and without a question this impacted the whole game. Davenport will get his knee evaluated today , we hope davenport comes back healthy .

Mcknight & Bonds Steps Up
With Davenport playing banged up someone had to step to the plate, and it was Kamar Mcknight and Rico Bonds that showed up. McKnight made some huge plays in the game that kept GHC flowing all night long he finished with 18 points. Rico Bonds “CAN GO” he finished with 12 points all in the second half, after not playing in the first half. Bonds and Mcknight can score with the best of them and will need to step up in more games during the rest of the way for the Highlanders to be successful.
Who’s Who of College Coaches were in Attendance
This was a huge stage for players last night for exposure. This was the most coaches I have seen at a regular season JuCo game in a while in Georgia . This was good for the league to draw that many 4 years to a regular season game. Below is a list some of the schools below that took in this heavy weight match up.
